This bun is made by the Chinese habitant in French Guiana and sold in their shop. It is popular in the morning as a breakfast or a afternoon bread with some tea.

Course: Breakfast, Side Dish
Cuisine: Chinese, French Guiana
Servings: 2 people
  • 500 g Plain flour
  • 2 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 2 tea bags Yeast
  • 3 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 15 cl Milk
  • 15 cl Water
  • 25 g Butter
1 meat or vegetable filling (left over from yesterday meal, for exemple)
This is How I Do
  1. Mix the baking powder and the sugar in the warmed milk

  2. Mix in all the ingredient (except the yeast) until you get a smooth dough that does not stick in your hand

  3. Let the dough double in size for one hour

  4. Knead the dough pouring the yeast into it

  5. Cut the dough in 12 portion and let it set for 10 minutes

  6. Fill each portion with your left over meat or vegetable.
Close the dough in a ball
Let it set for another 30 minutes

  7. Steam the buns in a water bath for 20 minutes after pouring 3 teaspoon of vinegar in the water (to keep the bun perfectly white)
